Are You Texting Or Training?

texting-in-the-gymWhat I saw in the gym today, trumped everything that I have been noticing over the last year or so. While I was mentally psyching myself up for a new 1 Rep Max on my Front Squat, I cannot but notice 4 guys sitting on a bench each right in front of the dumbbell racks.

Literally, as I look over, all 4 guys simultaneously have their heads bent over and keep staring at their  stupid fucking smartphones. Rather than being 100% present and engaged in the gym, they let the virtual world of their little devices distract them from the very reason they came to the gym for –> to stimulate muscle growth!

WHEN I TRAIN, I TRAIN !!!

I have made a rule for myself long ago that I don’t allow myself any fucking smartphones or other technological inventions to distract me from my workout.

When I enter the gym, I feel like I am entering a battlefield. I enter the gym with the clear intention of giving my workout the fullest attention and absolute commitment. I enter the gym not to just to fuck around a little bit with some weights. I enter the gym to become better – not just physically but even more importantly to become stronger mentally.

Of course, I am also guilty of excessively overusing my smartphone which is a bad habit that I have trouble with. But still for me, gym time is smartphone-free time where I don’t let constant instant messages and other bullshit fuck around with my focus and distract me from becoming a stronger version of myself.

    Hey Stephan, when are we going to see a progress post? It’d be very interesting to see how much you’re lifting after all these years, etc.

      Nahh,not jacked at all. (Rather jack-ing off to the bullshit they were watching on their phones) 😉
      I will post progress pics after 17 May – that’s when I will start my 6-week „Lean & Jacked“ Diet for 2015.

    Same as the guys, coming to the gym with 5 people and smalltalking all the time. Sometimes I´m not sure if the just want to hinder the big guys to get even bigger by occupuying the machines or even worse the squat rack.
    One reason why I hit the gym in the morning whenever possible.
    GET IN, DESTROY THE MUSCLES, GET OUT AND THEN GET SOMETHING TO EAT!
